Homestuck Re-read Part 52: END OF ACT 6 ACT 5.
I think I've worked out why I've become so reluctant to keep working on porting to my new server, I've been trying to do use it wrong. I want to use typescript as essentially a configuration/templating system but I've been trying to do things I wanted to use the plugin system for. Specifically I was trying to load blog posts and then sort them to dynamically assign them slugs and create endpoints but it was just. A bit too much especially with my current file system API. I'd much rather be using typescript to configure a go based plugin that actually runs the logic/etc.
I've started looking into ways to actually implement plugins (currently looking at hashicorp's go-plugin) but everything seems a lot more complex then I was expecting. Everything seems to be either based around wasm/wasi using TinyGo or some form of IPC using sockets or stdin/stdout.
Also I learned I might be using an outdated/not as active javascript runtime? It's a bit hard to tell but there is a more active fork called sobek that I might want to look into. Luckily it seems to still be more or less compatible as well as I did keep the actual library isolated to the one part of the code.
Homestuck
We've got around 138 pages for today. And it looks like we're going two pages at a time for the first part.
Everyone looks hung over as all hell and crashed on their quest slabs. It turns out the way they solved their personal problems with eachother did not stick. Although it looks like some actual reconciliation is happening. Jane and Dirk seem to be being friendly with Dirk apologizing for the situation with her birthday. Roxy and Jake's conversation isn't going quite so well, Jake is still kinda languishing in self pity and hatred. He asks if Roxy will apologize to Jane for him, he doesn't feel brave enough considering how upset she was with him.
I forgot how like. Kinda good Hussie is at writing realistic feeling relationship drama dialog. It might be a bit mature for them being 16 but it feels realistic to conversations I've been party too at least. Granted, none of the ones I was there for involved cherub cocaine and multiple instances of the same person, but still. The way they Dirk and Jane reconcile about their competition for Jake and putting him on this impossible pedestal. Meanwhile Roxy is trying to let off the pressure from Jake's self pity after thinking he's destroyed the friendships between the only four humans currently in existence. She's also kinda depressed about fefeta exploding. I really kinda relate to her in this section just because I'm very much used to the whole "my friends are having relationship drama that I am tangentially related too and also XYZ" thing, and being a bit of a third wheel just in general.
Jake also wants an apology passed to Dirk via Jane via Roxy. Well that's his second preference really, he wanted her to tell Dirk directly and not pass it via crockergram but Roxy can't face talking to him because he was right, she relapsed with alcohol and now she feels like she disappointed him too badly. While she explains all of this, we see things are going on with Jack Noir. He's recieved a juju breaker and lil cal, seemingly.
This part is, a bit hard to read. It's too realistic to, some things I've experienced and some ways I've acted that it becomes uncomfortable. Lets look at the panels for a moment instead so we can see this version of Jack Noir come under Caliborn's spell. And now Jake and Roxy are talking about Roxy kissing Dirk to trickster him and how it wasn't right because she used to hassle him about getting together despite knowing he was gay on account of them being the last two humans on earth. Wow Jack even blinded himself! They've lost track of the void ring too, somehow.
Jane and Roxy are talking about Roxy's drinking while Prospit seems to be, undergoing some kind of incident. We also learn that Fefeta told Roxy that the beta kids would arrive at some point. It was why Roxy decided to get sober. Things on Prospit are certainly escalating.
Back to Dirk and Jane. They're talking about him being disappointed in Roxy for relapsing. Which, he isn't. I mean it's a good point, it wasn't exactly like she just randomly did it, they were all all under the effects of cherub magicks. He thinks she's the strong one of the group because of how she got over her addition and got sober in the first place.
The Condense stands proud on the deck of her imperial warship. Dirk ruminates on them being nobles, not heroes. Created to wait for actual heroes to show up. She uses her mind control powers on a yellow blood. He talks about how Roxy was an invisible leader of their session who thanklessly put all her energy into holding the four of them together. She prepares to face down Jack Noir. He talks about how he thinks the world of Roxy. The condense and Jack hyperbeam their moons. Dirk ignores Jane's cry for help while trying to think of what to tell Roxy.
Derse and Prospit's moons are both completely destroyed. In a rather, amazing panel.
Four god tier nobles rise from the dead. They're immediately faced with challengers.
Jack is about to get Jane and Jake. Jade shows up at the last moment to save them. Throwing him out into the furthest ring. A reunion while meeting for the first time.
Meanwhile, The Condense gets down to business. She mind controls Vriska to mind control Tavros to mind control Jade. A triple psychic reach-around.
Grimbark Jade. Her first action is to zap the brainwashing band onto Jane's head. AI Controlled Jane. The pair then start punching out the other heroes. Dirk is also dumped into the furthest ring. While Roxy and Jake are taken prisoner on Derse.
We're getting close to the ending. Next up is Intermission 5 (which includes intermission 1, 2, interfishin, 3, 4, 5, 6) and then Act 6 Act 6 (which includes Act 1, Intermission 1, Act 2, Intermission 2, Act 3, Intermission 3, Act 4, Intermission 4, Act 5, Intermission 5 and Act 6), then act 7 and the post credits.
Yeah homestuck's structure gets real fucking stupid. It's great.
